In a game that featured four lead changes and two ties, the Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball team fell, 66-55, to Mercer on Sunday afternoon at FAU Arena.

After falling behind in the first quarter, the Owls stormed back to take a 19-14 lead behind a 10-0 run fueled by back-to-back three pointers from senior Malia Kency. The Owls led for the rest of the half.

Mercer came out of halftime and scored four straight points to tie the game. The two teams traded baskets for most of the third quarter, but the Bears took the lead late in the period and held it for the remainder of the game.

The Florida Atlantic University women’s basketball showed fight against Colorado on Wednesday night but fell 76-69. After falling behind multiple times by double digits, the Owls battled back to bring the game within two possessions in the second half.

Sasha Cedeño led all scorers with 24 points in the game, tying her career high previously reached last season at Arizona. She also matched her career high in steals with three and added seven boards along with her impressive night. Fifteen of her 24 points came in the third quarter, when the senior seemingly took over the game and brought the Owls within six points of Colorado.

The Owls kept the score close in the first quarter, trailing by seven at the end of the period after a 5-0 Colorado run. The Buffaloes grew their lead in the second quarter, but the Owls kept the margin at seven by halftime.

In the third quarter, Colorado reached its biggest lead, up 16 with 5:24 left in the period, but the Owls battled back and used a 14-3 run to cut the lead to five. Eleven of the Owls’ 14 points came from Cedeño.

Colorado was able to go up 14 in the fourth quarter, but once again FAU battled back and cut it to six. Unfortunately, there wasn’t enough left on the clock to complete the comeback that the Owls were pushing for.

The Owls will continue play on the road with a matchup at Indiana State on Monday. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m. (EST).

The Owls earned thier first win of the season on Monday night at Indiana State by a score of 66-58. The victory was the first of the Jim Jabir era at FAU and it snapped a 21-game losing streak beginning last season on December 16.

The Owls scored 26 points in the first quarter, resulting in a 26-13 score at the end of the period. The 26 points were the most in a quarter this season.

FAU kept a comfortable distance between themselves and Indiana State in the second quarter going up by 11 by halftime.

The Sycamores were able to cut the lead to single digits multiple times in the second half, even getting it two in the fourth quarter. The Owls used a 8-0 run late in the fourth to give themselves a cushion as the final buzzer sounded.

For the second consecutive game, senior Sasha Cedeño was the leading scorer for the owls, but this time she was able to outdo her previous career high in points and secure her first career double-double. Cedeño ended the game with 26 points, 11 rebounds, one assist and one steal. She had 14 points in the first quarter alone.

The Owls will play two more games this week, hosting the FAU Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday.

FAU claimed their second straight victory on Friday in a 80-60 defeat of St. Francis Brooklyn.

Sasha Cedeño posted a 27 points, marking her third straight game above the 20 point threshold, and Malia Kency had a career-best 11 assists.

The Terriers jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the game, but Cedeño put the Owls ahead by scoring six straight points on a three-pointer and a basket plus foul shot combination. FAU stretched its lead to 13 to end the quarter.

St. Francis was able to get within 11 points of the Owls in the second quarter after an 8-0 run, but that that was as close as they would get.

Tyana Robinson, who saw her first action on the year after sitting out the first three contests, notched 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting from beyond the arc.

The Owls will next face Bowling Green on Saturday at 2:30 PM.

After falling behind in the first half to Bowling Green, the Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team stormed back in the third quarter to take the lead but ultimately fell to the Falcons, 66-55 on Saturday afternoon.

The Owls (2-3) were behind by 12 points when Raven Doyle scored six straight points to cut the Falcons’ lead in half. Sasha Cedeño then scored eight straight points at the end of the third and beginning of the fourth quarter to tie the game.

Bowling Green regained a three-point advantage, but back-to-back layups from Ra’Kyra Gabriel gave the Owls their first lead since the beginning of the game. With 7:25 left in the game, Bowling Green went on an 11-0 run that would put the Falcons ahead for good.

The Owls remain at home for the next two games. Grand Canyon will come to town on Friday, December 1 at 7:00 PM.

The Owls battled with Grand Canyon on Friday night but came up short 77-73 in double overtime in a game that featured seven ties and five lead changes.

FAU led all of the first half and took a 31-23 lead into halftime, but Grand Canyon stormed back in the fourth quarter behind hot shooting.

In a three-minute span, Grand Canyon connected on four three pointers and took a two-point lead. After traded baskets, the Lopes had a three-point lead when Tyana Robinson was fouled on a made layup. Robinson hit the free throw and tied the game.

In overtime, Grand Canyon scored first but Jamaria Williams banked in a three to give the Owls a one-point lead.

Again, the two teams exchanged baskets and the game was tied at the end of the extra period.

FAU took a lead three times early in the second overtime period, but Grand Canyon scored the last four points of the game to escape with the win.

Robinson led the Owls in scoring with 18 points on the night. The redshirt freshman was 3-of-7 from beyond the arc.

The Owls will be back in action on Sunday when they host North Florida at 2:00 PM.

For the second game in three days, the Florida Atlantic women’s basketball team gutted out another double overtime performance.

This time the Owls (3-4) came out on top with an 83-75 win against North Florida (4-4) on Sunday afternoon in FAU Arena.

Melinda Myers came off the bench and had her first career double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds.

Raven Doyle filled the stat sheet with nine points, eight rebounds and two assists. Alexis Cowan had a season-high six rebounds.

The Owls crashed the boards once again and outrebounded the Ospreys, 57-45, in the game.

The Owls will take a week off before hitting the road for the next two games. FAU will travel to Georgia State on Dec. 15 and Nebraska on Dec. 19.

FAU women’s basketball (4-4) dominated in a 82-50 win at Georgia State (3-6) on Friday night.

The Owls used their physicality against the Panthers to their advantage not only on the boards, but on defense as well. FAU had a season-high eight blocks in the game, outdoing their previous high of two earlier this season. That mark is the second highest team total by a C-USA team this season.

The game began with DaChé Williams scoring the first six points of the game and giving FAU a 6-0 lead. Georgia State battled back with a 7-0 run of their own to take the lead, but it would be the only lead of the game for the Panthers.

At one point in the second quarter, the Owls had an 11-0 run that began with seven points scored in 46 seconds. Georgia State responded with a 6-0 run but Sasha Cedeño ended that with a coast-to-coast layup off of her own defensive rebound. FAU had 23 points in the second quarter, the highest total in the second period for the Owls this season. They also held the Panthers to 11 points in the period, a season low for the second quarter.

FAU’s 17-point halftime lead was the largest of the season for the Owls. Georgia State came out of halftime and outscored FAU, 18-14, in the third quarter.

The Owls turned up the intensity to close out the game, scoring a season-high 25 points in the period and holding Georgia State to six points in the final quarter. FAU used a 14-0 run midway through the quarter to push their lead to 27.

Five FAU players scored in double figures for the first time this season and the for the second straight game two players recorded double-doubles.

 The Owls will hit the road again next week with a Tuesday night matchup at Nebraska at 8 p.m.

The women’s basketball team fell, 86-69, on the road to Nebraska on Tuesday night. In a game that featured 10 lead changes and four ties, the Owls were in it until the end, but the Cornhuskers caught fire late in the game.

FAU (4-5) and Nebraska both had low scoring first quarters, but the Owls took a 15-13 lead on a Danneal Ford buzzer-beating three. The Huskers held a 37-31 lead at halftime.

The Owls came out of halftime and jumped on a 7-0 run to take retake the lead. For the rest of the quarter, no team would lead by more than five points.


With 9:39 left in the game, FAU had a 55-52 lead after a four-point play from Sasha Cedeño after she was fouled on a three-point shot.

Nebraska (9-3) clinched their win outscoring the Owls 15-2 in 3:29 of action (5:35-2:06). The Huskers shot 85.7% from the field in the final quarter, missing only two total shots and outscored the Owls 34-18 total in the last frame.

The Owls will return home for the FAU Holiday Classic on December 29 and 30. FAU will take on Delaware State and then will face either Stetson or UMKC depending on Friday’s results. The tournament will wrap up the Owls’ nonconference schedule.
