When you say "FAU declined" who exactly are you referring to Mark? Do they realize how many alumni want this? I'd like to let him/her know as I assume its one person making the call.

I don't want this to become a "bashing" session because there are many factors to licensing and many reasons for doing things a certain way.
Here is how it works:
Every design that uses the FAU name or logo must go through a process (and it is that way at every University–as it should be) where I create a design, then the licensing company that handles FAU looks at the design, and if they don't see anything wrong, it goes to the licensing department at FAU and they approve or disapprove.
Years ago FAU decided to discontinue the use of the Blue Wave name. The thought was that we are relatively unknown and wanted to increase our name recognition by eliminating certain names and certain logos.
I am ok with all that – and for the record…FAU has been nothing but supportive of what I am doing and it has been a great relationship all around. We never have any issues at all. I usually know before I submit something how it will end up.
My only constructive critique is from an alumni perspective and not a business owner:
We do not embrace the past as well as I think we could. We have no traditions, and we never will if we always change everything every time we hire someone new.
When new people are hired at Auburn, they don't say: let's stop using the term: War Eagle…even though we are the Tigers. When new people are hired at Clemson, they don't say: let's stop touching Howard's rock before we run on the field.
I think the perception that we have no traditions opens the door for people who are not FAU grads to come in and change things and disregard some of the past.
The perception is becoming reality because of this IMHO. Many will simply say: well, we are not Auburn and we are not Clemson.
I say: we never will be if we don't embrace some of our past.
I have lots of people come into my store who do not know Alfred Morris went to FAU. Most have never heard of Rusty Smith, tons of people do not know Howard Schnellenberger built the football program. You would be amazed.
So I guess, in the end, all of the above is what the silly "Blue Wave" shirt means to me! Go Owls!!

Look at all of the University's during football season wearing throwback uniforms and all of the throwback apparel out there. It doesn't make sense to not approve something that people will wear in good taste to support FAU.

I test-marketed a new T-shirt by simply wearing it to the Baseball game last night. Had a lot of great responses so I created the product on our site and will add it to The Store today. It is the New "Blue Wave" Long Sleeve T-shirt. For the youngsters out there...The FAU baseball team used to be known as the Blue Wave. Wanted to keep a tradition alive.
Hope you like it...

I personally love it and would totally buy one.
I am a huge fan of the Blue Wave mascot, and I wish more students knew and embraced it.
+1 for Walty for brining up the throwback idea, and who cares if our football program is only 13 years old, the jerseys have changed from then to now and I would love to see the old 2000's helmet logo, but I am a sucker for a good throwback day.
I love dropkicks and fat guy touchdowns.

I don't blame the school. When chun got here he said he thought we had to many logos I think the school simply does not want to confuse people.walty12 said
Im not looking to "bash" anybody, I just want the person making the decision to know that as an alumni and supporter of the University I dont agree with the decision. I'm not sure this said person knows that people really want this logo available.

FAU is already confused with FIU enough as it is if I feel the school is trying make sure everyone knows the owls first.

I agree with what the FAU department is doing with marketing. FAU had way too many images being used which made it difficult to create a branding identity. The currently strategy in place in what is need to create brand recognition. FAU logo and mascot is an "Owl" not "Blue Wave". We do not need different brands for different sports. All sports should fall under one brand IMHO. The blue wave logo was only associated with baseball and not any other sport, therefore, conformity was needed.Posted On: Mar 5th 2014, 12:55 PM #329315
Alabama has an Elephant…
They also have the A…
They also have Crimson Tide…

I agree. I like reducing the number of images for branding identity. But don't ignore nostalgia and throwback opportunities.
And if it really is all about brand recognition, I would bet over 99.9% of the population would not know us by looking at our football helmet. That is a huge branding opportunity…if that is really the goal.

Out of curiosity, if you had wanted to make the "O" in Owl Time the FAU Owl head on your sign, do you think that would have been allowed?

Agreed 1000%.
They're screwing up our FAU/FIU rivalry right as we speak.
It makes me wonder if anybody, anywhere, ever sat down with these people and said, "These certain things are tradition and this is how we practice them but feel free to add your own ideas to the other stuff." For instance, The Cove was a great idea (I believe the Rat's Mouth was an SGA effort). Changing the Signing Day Celebration to a paid event was a great idea. Making a Greek section at the stadium was a great idea.
But apparently no one ever told them that we reserve red for rivalry/in-state games because we've worn it all over the place. Does this not bother any of you guys? Really disappointed to see this tradition go and it's a small but pertinent example of how you alienate alumni. The Blue Wave thing is another.
