They put these banners up but I think they're still tinkering with the final design…

Yea, saw those when we were there for the Marshall game. Wish I could have won the lottery like the kid up above Tampa did. Entire complex be a done deal!!!

Ok. I know they've been up for a little bit but not sure how many people have seen them (especially the people from out of state)

This thing is still listed as "design started" (not "design complete") as of January 10th on the Major Projects sheet. That doesn't inspire great confidence that they're going to bring in cranes next month.

When I last spoke to people at FAU "in the know" - they laughed at the notion we would break ground on this before fall 2018.  They even said that is a stretch and would bet on 2019.

Remember the pain and waiitng on building the stadium?  That was a 6-7 year process....painful process.

Teambeer is the most knowledgeable FAU sports fan I know, way smarter than me.

I don't disagree but then again this is essentially an academic building and it usually doesn't take this long to settle on the architecture.

Then again I can see this project being different because of the phasing plan, what to include now vs later, which can also change if more money comes in.

I agree, I think design should have been settled a long time ago, this is not a "new" project anymore! THAT HAS to be done before accurate construction estimates and contracts followed by permits and THEN by actual construction!!!! GOTTA BE PASSED THAT LEVEL AT LEAST, RIGHT????

So what is actually going on? I heard they are starting the work on the stadium portion of the project. At least that is what President Kelly stated a couple weeks ago

They know the cost (which means they've had this priced by builders/subs) and we assume they are at 95% on design, if not 100%. Minor changes in architecturals, details, etc do not drastically change the price, if anything, I would think they are looking for opportunities to drop price with value engineering options. My senses tell me this is a financing issue.

My guess is you are correct. The only thing that ever holds any of us from doing/building/going/buying amazing things is financing.

Design changes typically do cost money unless they're reducing scope or as you stated looking for value engineering. Another issue is pricing. With the Trump effect in top gear, construction costs are rising. It's basic supply and demand. Contractors are in high demand and there's a lack of quality skilled labor. The guys at my rep firm are working 60 to 70 hours a week and we still can't keep up. We're easily getting 25 to 30 bid job requests a day.

With that being said, I hope they pull the trigger soon cause it ain't gonna get any cheaper…..

Go Owls!
