2012 FAU Softball Schedule

The Florida Atlantic softball team split on day one of the Strike Out for Cancer Tournament held at FAU Softball Stadium, falling to Auburn 6-1 before defeating Florida A&M 3-2.

In game one, the Tigers took control early, building a 6-0 lead through the bottom half of the sixth inning before the Owls scored their first run.

That would end up being the only offense for the home team, as FAU went down in 1-2-3 order on strikeouts for the seventh. The Owls committed four errors on the contest.

Considering a 6-3 loss earlier in the month against the Rattlers, game two was a rematch that Florida Atlantic was hopeful to avenge. And that would be the end result.

After falling behind 1-0 in the bottom of the 2nd, the Owls plated three runs in the 4th (1) and 5th (2) frames to lead 3-1.

FAMU would edge closer in the bottom of the sixth however, scoring off an RBI single to left. But Florida Atlantic's infield secured the game's final three outs there after to preserve the win.

FAU (2-11) will next take on Tulsa tomorrow at 8:00 p.m.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

A bottom of the seventh push by Tulsa (8-2) propelled the Golden Hurricane to a 6-5 win over Florida Atlantic (2-11) on Saturday night in the Strike Out for Cancer Tournament.

The Owls were steady defensively for the first time in the last few games, and held a 5-4 lead heading into Tulsa's last trip to the plate.

However, two doubles wrapped around a single would undo the advantage in the end.

It was a bitter sweet performance for Taylor Fawbush, who led Florida Atlantic offensively with a 2-of-4, 2 RBI performance at the plate, but suffered her fourth pitching loss.

The Owls will conclude tournament action tomorrow at 9:00 a.m. when taking on Michigan State.

Florida Atlantic (3-11) knocked of Michigan State 4-3 in their final game of the Strike Out for Cancer Tournament.

The Owls took a 3-0 lead after their first two at bats before the Spartans would post solo efforts in the 3rd, 5th, and 6th innings to pull matters even.

However, FAU would capitalized on two MSU (2-9) errors in their final at bat for the winning run.

SS Carly Speerin posted 2 RBI for the Owls in the win.

The squad next travels to UNLV for the Eller Media Stadium Classic, where they will first take on Illinois this Friday at 12:00 noon.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

The Owls completed a two game sweep on day one of the Eller Media Stadium Classic, taking Illinois 8-5 in eight innings and knocking off Seton Hall 4-2 in the second contest.

The wins gave Florida Atlantic (5-11) their third straight victory after a rough start to the season that had been plagued by defensive miscues. Such would not be the case on Friday however, as the team made just one collectively on the day.

With FAU up 5-0 in the top of the sixth in game one, the Illini (6-8) would make a charge behind a bases loaded double to pull within two runs before eventually tying matters matters in the 7th. However a double by Taylor Fawbush (3-for-5) and pair of singles secured the day's first win for the Owls.

Seton Hall briefly took the lead in game two 1-0 before FAU answered with two runs in the bottom half of the inning, and later moved the advantage to 3-1 in the 4th. The Pirates (3-6) connected for their final score in the 6th as a pitch got away from Owl catcher Quincy Wilson. 2B Heather Barnes' RBI double increased the Seton hall deficit to two runs for the final tally later in the 6th inning, which was FAU's final trip to the plate.

Freshman pitcher Paige Pender picked up her third win on the year with the victory.

The team will return to action tomorrow at 2:15 p.m. to take on New Mexico State before battling host UNLV later at 6:45 p.m.

New Mexico State had the upper hand in game one on Saturday, taking the contest 5-1 over Florida Atlantic who drops to 5-12 on the year.

The Owls scored the games first run in the top of the second but saw the advantage vanish as quick as it came when the Aggies (12-9) answered with three scores in the bottom of the frame. That score would hold until the bottom of the 6th when they added two more for the final score.

Losing pitcher Stephanie Call threw 6 innings for FAU, giving up seven hits, and five runs.

Florida Atlantic was outhit 7-3, and commited one error on the afternoon.

DH Kelsey Dodd was 2-for-3 with 3RBI for New Mexico State.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

FAU notched their third win in the Eller Media Stadium Classic tonight with a 9-5 win over host UNLV (9-8).

Runs came in bunches during both the 3rd (5) and 6th (4) innings for the Owls, who started the 2012 season 1-10, but have since won 5-of-7 to improve to 6-12 on the year.

Junior Taylor Fawbush threw for 3 2/3 innings giving up just 2 hits before handing the ball over to freshman Samantha Messer, who would allow seven which resulted in all of the Rebels' scores.

2B Heather Barnes was solid at the plate, driving in five FAU runs off a 2-of-4 showing including a 6th inning grand slam which proved to be the difference in the ball game.

The team will wrap up action tomorrow at 12:00 p.m. in a rematch with Illinois. The Owls took the first game against the Illini 8-5 on Friday night.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

Florida Atlantic couldn’t hang on to its early lead, and fell 7-6 to Illinois on the last day of the Eller Media Stadium Classic.

Thanks to a grand slam by SS Carly Speerin, the Owls (6-13) scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning and appeared to be on the way to a 2-0 sweep against the Big Ten foe.

Illinois (9-9) answered the FAU outburst with four runs of their own in the 3rd, but the Owls would still maintain their position with a 6-5 lead heading into the 5th.

However that tally would not stand up in the end, as the bats never got going again, and the Illini tied the game later in the frame, then moved ahead with the game winner in the top of the 7th.

FAU had a chance to either tie or go head with two runners on and two out in their last at bat, but a ground out thwarted the attempt.

Despite giving up only two runs in four innings of work, Samantha Messer took the loss for Florida Atlantic.

FAU will next begin a 14 game home stand in Boca Raton. First up is Sun Belt opponent Western Kentucky on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.

Re: 2012 FAU Softball Schedule

WE just don't seem to have much pitching, giving up 28 runs in 5 games, over 5.5 a game in fastpitch is not a good thing. Like football, being in S. Florida I don't see how this is remotely possible!
