Owls at a Glance
Florida Atlantic will be playing in its second postseason NCAAI tournament with Thursday night’s WNIT appearance. This marks the first WNIT appearance in program history. The last postseason game was against LSU in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament when the team lost 72-48 LSU.
Florida Atlantic’s 10-win improvement is tied for the sixth-best seasonal win increase among Division I teams. The Owls were 7-21 last season.
Sophomore forward Chenise Miller has been a double-figure scorer in six of the past eight games, and scored a career high with 21 points in the SBC tournament victory over North Texas on March 4.
The Owls come into the contest ranking 24th nationally in fouls with 13.9 per game.
Bulls at a Glance
South Florida finished 17-15, and 8-8 in Big East play this season while adjusting to the loss of last year's leading scorer Andrea Smith (16.5 ppg), who was injured the entire span. They progressed to the second round of the league tournament before a 76-62 loss to DePaul.
At 6'-4" center Caitlin Rowe offers some size to deal with down low, but is only producing a 31.5% scoring efficiency. Three point play is not the Bull's strength at 28.7%, however they show solid on-ball defense having stolen the ball 10.6 times on average per outing.
During the 2011-12 regular season, South Florida faced solid competition in 12 NCAA Tournament teams. They were 9-3 at the USF Recreation Center, and will will be seeking their second WNIT championship.
