FAU women's soccer  was nipped on Sunday afternoon by Miami, 1-0 at Cobb Stadium.

The two teams battled to a scoreless draw for the first half and through the first portion of the second. Gracie Lachowecki of UM (5-1) found some spacing on the left side of the box, and she put in a cross from teammate Kristina Fisher for the lone goal of the match, in the 56th minute.

Despite tripling the shot attempts of their opponents from Oakland, the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team drew with the Golden Grizzlies at home on Thursday night, 0-0.

FAU (3-3-1) had many golden opportunities in front of and around the net, and outshot Oakland (3-3-1) by a total of 27-9 on the night. The team and their Owl faithful thought they had gone ahead as a shot by Kelly Harris in the 40th minute found the back of the net, but the attempt was negated as she was whistled for being offsides.

The women’s soccer team scored all three of their goals in the second half to defeat St. Bonaventure Friday night by that 3-0 margin.

The Owls (4-4-1) thoroughly dominated possession in the first half, outshooting the Bonnies (2-4-1) 10-1 and taking all of the half’s nine corners, but it was 0-0 at that point. They were finally able to dent the scoreboard in the 63rd minute, when Sammy Rowland’s pass trailed along the goal line until it was nudged in by freshman Mary O’Hara for her first collegiate goal.

Scores that came right after one another sealed the deal. With 16:58 left, goalkeeper Sydney Drinkwater lofted a kick over the top that Kelly Harris chased down. The junior transfer’s first shot rebounded off of the Bonnies’ keeper, but it came right back to Harris, who deposited it into the goal for her first career score. Then, just 1:36 later, Kelsey Parry saw the SBU keeper playing up and lobbed a shot from 35+ yards out that found the back of the net for her first goal of the season as well.

“I thought our attack was very good and it was very good early,” said head coach Patrick Baker. “We regrouped at halftime, got a couple of things sorted out and managed to get the first goal. We thought that if we got the first, the second or third might be there and it just happened to be that way tonight. It was a workman-like performance for sure.”

The women’s soccer team waited out a lengthy weather delay to dispatch border rival FIU in the team’s Conference USA season opener, 1-0 on Sunday night from the FAU Soccer Stadium.

The Owls (5-4-1) and Panthers (1-6-1) didn’t take the field until nearly three hours after the scheduled start time (2:41 to be exact), and neither team came out on all cylinders to start. After combining for just three total first-half shots, it was FAU’s Sammy Rowland who provided what would turn out to be the game-winner in the 52nd minute, with a pinpoint shot up and over the FIU keeper from at least 25 yards out.

“It was tough for both teams to sit,” said head coach Patrick Baker. "First half was a little bit back and forth, more so between the 18’s, and we just talked about at halftime that we’d need a moment of magic, and Sammy Rowland had a moment of magic.”

The women’s soccer team was able to make a first half goal stand up in notching a Conference USA road victory on Friday night over Middle Tennessee, 1-0.

The lone goal of the match came in the 38th minute, off of a beautiful corner kick by Kelsey Parry. The senior played the ball to the far side of the box where it was headed in by Sammy Rowland for her team-high fifth goal of the season.

The Owls (6-5-1, 2-1-0 C-USA) staved off all of the remaining Blue Raider (3-6-1, 1-2-0) shot attempts. They had 11 chances following the score, none finding the back of the net. Only five of their 15 shots were on goal.
