FAU Baseball showed flashes of DOMINANCE in their win over rival FIU, winning 11-6. That was the first time the Owls put up more than 10 runs in a game for the first time since their 11-10 loss to Charlotte on April 4.

The Rundown
  • Freshman outfielder Jalen DeBose showed a display of dominance on the base paths, stealing both second and third base before arriving at home plate on a wild pitch.
  • The Owls played well with their backs against the wall, holding FIU to 0-2 with the bases loaded, with bases loaded opportunities coming in both the eighth and ninth inning.
  • FAU pitchers held FIU batters to just a .091 batting average with runners in scoring position. Meanwhile, FAU batters hit .308 with men on second and/or third base.
  • The Owls depth showed up today, with the team putting up 11 runs despite both star players, 1B Nolan Schanuel and 3B B.J. Murray, hitting 0-5 today.

"We tried to mix it up, sometimes some guys see things a bit differently when they're in a different spot in the lineup. I'm glad it worked out. Loden, Pendleton, and Morgensen definitely carried the day for us." - Head Coach John McCormack

Tomorrow's doubleheader will start at 2:00 PM. The games won't be on C-USA TV, so tune in to FAU Athletic's YouTube channel for the radio broadcast.

The Owls' offense EXPLODED for the second game in the row. They're now totaling 27 runs in this series through two games. Steven Loden was also a factor yet again in this game, going 3-3 with 2 RBIs.

FAU gave up five runs in the sixth inning, all of which being unearned after a throwing error from 2B Steven Loden. The Owls probably could've used some of their runs from game 1.

Despite the Owls only winning one of the two games in today's doubleheader, FAU's offense looked solid all around. In the first game of the doubleheader (game two of the series), the Owls won 16-7. In the nightcap (game three of the series) FAU lost 6-5. Nonetheless, at 2-1 overall through three games, they still enjoy a spot in the catbird seat tomorrow with RHP Javi Rivera set to take the hill. Rivera enjoys the staff's best starter's mark at 3-0, and is coming off a dominant 119 pitch complete game performance in the Owls' 5-3 win over UAB last weekend on Sunday.

The Rundown

  • FAU hit the long ball like crazy in today's doubleheader, combining for five home runs over the two-game set.
  • The Owls had an overall batting average of .383 (23-60) over the course of Saturday's action.
  • Clutch hitting was FAU's bread and butter in game two, producing a .818 mark with a runner on third and less than two outs.
  • FAU pitchers Matt Sparling and Braden Ostrander were extremely efficient in game three, throwing just 33 balls combined.
  • In comparison, FIU's pitchers threw a combined 53 balls.
  • Five of the six runs scored by the Panthers in game three were unearned following a throwing error from 2B Steven Loden.

"100%, not only there, it was the fact we couldn't maneuver out of the inning. We compounded a problem with a problem and compounded it more." - Head Coach John McCormack on whether Loden's second-inning error made the difference in FAU's game three loss.

The Owls will be back in action tomorrow at noon, when they look to clinch their first series win since March 28th against Marshall. The game will be broadcast on C-USA TV, with FAU's Jonathan Fraysure on the call for a friendly voice via the Owls' YouTube channel.

We will also be back in full coverage mode for the contest for a hopeful win.

It's Javi Day! After two consecutive dominant starts, Javi Rivera is getting set for another one!

Both Nick Toney and Caleb Pendleton get the day off today, but Shane Magrann has been doing well in his own right in the opportunities he's been given. The sophomore is hitting .350 with a home run and 3 RBIs.

The Owls could've gotten out of the inning only giving up one run, but a costly wild pitch puts on another. The bats were quiet to start the game.

The rain is starting to fall at FIU Baseball Stadium. FAU does have runners on the corners with two outs in the second, so we'll see what the umpires decide to do.
