Owl Notables

FAU faltered for the second Friday in a row, dropping their opener against a pesky Delaware club 8-5, however found their footing thereafter with back-to-back wins while holding the Fightin' Blue Hens to just four total runs for the final two contests (8-3, 5-1).

The competition ramps up a bit for Tuesday and Wednesday with the Wolverines coming in, for what will be the Owls first and only mid-week two-fer of the 2022 slate.

"Very good team, two years ago they were in the final game of the college world series", said Head Coach John McCormack of the Wolverines. "We've got to be ready."

Infielder Steven Loden is currently pacing the Owls at the plate overall with 11 hits on the year and a .407 average. Next in line is 3B Jackson Ross (.347) who has improved his stock after leading the team for the Delaware trio of contests with a .500 mark which included six hits, two 2B, and an RBI. Gabriel Rincones continues to be the power man, with a squad best in both homers (4) and slugging percentage (.719).

The pen performed well against the Blue hens, outpacing the starters 12-8 in strikeouts, and that is a factor to follow against Michigan with a heavy rotation likely in store.

If the Owls can get through these two contests successfully, they have a good chance of riding a nice win streak as things will lighten somewhat for the next two series with Fordham and Sacred Heart due in for visits to FAU Baseball Stadium.

"Two midweek games with them is a great test for us,", McCormack said. "And I think our guys will be up to the task."

Wolverine Notables

Winners of four in a row, Michigan will continue its nine-day, eight-game road trip with five games in six days between two states. The Wolverines posted a 3-0 record last weekend with a win over Seton Hall and two wins over Florida International in back-to-back high scoring affairs (16-8, 13-9).

Graduate students led the way for the Wolverines last week as IF Matt Frey batted .600 with a .733 on-base percentage, OF Joe Stewart batted .400 with two homers and seven run batted in, and SS Alex Fedje-Johnson batted .375 with a .643 OBP.

Every Michigan starter had multiple games of getting on base at least twice, and the team batted .336 with a gaudy .486 OBP overall. Clark Elliott continues to lead U-M offensively with a .387 mark, six extra-base hits and three homers, while Frey sports a .529 OBP through seven games.

The Wolverines will use a staff rotation for the series, with multiple insertions likley throughout the contests.

In the Big Ten Conference preseason coaches poll, Michigan was selected to finish second in the conference behind Nebraska and ahead of Iowa, Maryland, Iowa, Ohio State and Indiana.
