Owl Notables
The Owls were held in check in the opening weekend of Conference USA against UTSA. After an 8-2 defeat on Friday night, Saturday's action was washed out due to weather. Instead, the teams played two seven-inning contests on Sunday. The Roadrunners won both by scores of 7-2 and 5-3.
FAU won the first meeting 6-5 against the Canes at home back on Feb. 28 powered by two home runs from Nolan Schanuel. The Owls will be looking to take consecutive games in the same season against the Canes for the first time since 2018. FAU will also be trying for its first win in Coral Gables since May 18, 2021.
Florida Atlantic will start CJ Williams on the mound. Williams has allowed seven earned runs over 10.1 innings of action and currently has a 6.10 ERA.

Hurricanes Notables
Following a sensational week, Miami infielder CJ Kayfus earned Player of the Week recognition from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Collegiate Baseball and Perfect Game/Rawlings, as announced Monday.
Kayfus batted .750 (12-for-16) with three home runs, eight RBI and a 2.137 OPS across the Hurricanes’ 4-0 stretch, highlighted by a sweep of then-No. 17 Virginia Tech. The junior also scored seven runs, walked four times and stole three bases, helping No. 17 Miami vault up the polls.
RHP Carlos Lequerica will get the start for Miami. Lequerica has mounted 25 strikeouts in 15.2 innings of play over 11 appearances.

Series: Hurricanes lead 70-21 all-time against the Owls. Both teams are tied 1-1 this season.
Projected Starting Pitchers:
FAU - RHP Danny Trehey (0-0, 23.14 ERA)
Miami - TBD
Owl Notables
FAU struggled to get their offense going against Dallas Baptist this past weekend, getting outscored 24-7 in a series sweep.
Despite their hardships, they will look to bounce back for their midweek contest against Miami. The Owls have a solid 6-3 record including a three-game winning streak against midweek opponents with their only three defeats coming against Florida at Gainesville and the Hurricanes at Coral Gables.
Junior outfielder Nolan Schanuel would be the main factor in FAU's chances against Miami. He starred in the series opener by putting up two home runs and five RBI, and bagged another homer in the March 22 duel. He is batting .750 (6-8) against the Hurricanes' bullpen so it would be probable he continues his hot streak against Miami. He ranks first in the nation in OPS (1.513), third in batting average (.455), and 20th in home runs (14).
Caleb Pendleton could also play a significant role in having the Owls be victorious against the Hurricanes. The junior catcher has a home run with a .400 batting average against Miami during the series, as it would not be out of the imagination for him to come out with a big game against them.
Another midweek matchup features another appearance on the mound for freshman pitcher Danny Trehey. Slowly progressing with his performance entering his fourth start this season, Trehey has a total of three strikeouts after 2.1 innings. If he can keep Miami quiet to start the contest, it could give FAU plenty of momentum for the bullpen to prevent the Hurricanes from scoring runs.
Hurricane Notables
The Hurricanes will look to avenge their 6-5 defeat from late-February to begin the season series against the Owls.
Taking two out of three games to clinch the series win on the road over No. 13 North Carolina at Chapel Hill this past weekend, Miami returned to the graces of the national rankings. Voters from several outlets have them ranked from 24th to as high as 15th.
- Collegiate Baseball 15
- Perfect Game 24
- Baseball America 16
- NCBWA 20
- Coaches Poll 18
- D1 Baseball 17
With Miami putting themselves to where D1 Baseball placed them in their weekly rankings, we will have them at the #17 spot as they were outside the top 25 for the week of April 10.
Danny Trehey and the FAU bullpen must be aware of Hurricane Blake Cyr's batting ability. The freshman leads Miami in RBI with 34 and is tied for first in home runs with nine. Junior infielder Yohandy Morales is another Hurricane the Owls need to keep an eye on, as he tops the team in hits with 45 on a .338 average.
Home runs have become common for Miami this year, firing 69 of them out of the park. This makes them the sixth-best in the country, and the Owls need to be smart with their pitching to prevent the Hurricanes from showcasing their firepower.
After this contest, Miami will host three games against Georgia Tech before concluding their series against FAU on April 25.
IT'S RIVALRY TIME at @FAUBaseball Stadium with #FAU taking on 17TH-RANKED @CanesBaseball! Here are the starters for your Owls:
