FAU adds eight players for 2011 season The Florida Atlantic University womens basketball team announced their 2010 signing class with eight new players to be added for the 2011 season. The class consists of three junior college transfers and five incoming freshman. This class has everything we sought after as we try replace the seven seniors on this years team, said Chancellor Dugan, FAUs head coach. Both on and off the court these young ladies have all the qualities that we look for in Owl basketball. They are the future of FAU womens basketball. April Goins (Eastpointe, MI) earned Second Team Division II Preseason All-American honors and averaged 15.2 points and 9.1 rebounds per game last season for Schoolcraft College in Livonia, Michigan. The 6-foot-1 forward is the 99th ranked JUCO prospect and the 23rd ranked forward in the nation, according to Collegiate Girls Report. Shavonne Seymour (McBee, SC) is in her first season at North West Florida State College and is the ranked as the 74th JUCO prospect and the 17th ranked forward in the nation, according to Collegiate Girls Report. The 6-foot-1 post player is averaging 7.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game for the Raiders through 2009-10s first four games. Vontrice Dennis (Miami, FL) , who also plays at NW Florida State, is the final junior college signee. The 6-foot forward is averaging 9.8 points and 5.5 rebounds in her first four games as a Raider. Dennis is familiar with the Sun Belt Conference, playing one season at the University of South Alabama prior to junior college. The former Miami Norland High School standout is the 35th ranked JUCO prospect the 5th ranked wing-forward in the nation, according to Collegiate Girls Report. Chaquera Kent (Titusville, FL) averaged 11.3 points and 9.2 rebounds per game during her junior season at Titusville High School. The 6-1 post player also shot 46% from the field during as a junior. Latavia Dempsey (St. Petersberg, FL) was a Second Team Class 5A All-State selection last season at Boca Ciega High School. The 5-foot-7 guard averaged 16 points and 4.6 assists per game in addition to shooting 54% from the field during her junior year. Takia Brooks (Miami, FL) was a First Team All-State selection last year at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy in Miami. The 5-foot-7 guard was also named the Miami Herald Class 6A Player of the Year after averaging 17 points, 11 rebounds, six assists and five steals per game during her junior campaign. Kim Smith (Minneloa, FL) was a Third Team All-Central Florida selection and the Lake County Player of the Year in 2008-09. The 5-foot-8 guard averaged 10 points, 5.8 assists, four steals and 2.3 blocks per game last year during her junior season at East Ridge High School in Clermont. Alexis Parker (Vero Beach, FL) is the tallest player of the class standing at 6-foot-4 inches. The Vero Beach High School standout post player averaged a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds to go along with three blocks per game during her junior campaign. These eight student-athletes were a joy to recruit and we have really hit a home run, Dugan said. Im confident that the quality characteristics all of these girls posses will undoubtedly translate into success for our program.
