WKU improves to 7-0 all-time against FAU The Florida Atlantic womens basketball team could not overcome outstanding performances from Arnika Brown and Lashay Davis as the Owls fell to Western Kentucky 76-57 on Wednesday night from E.A. Diddle Arena. Davis led all scorers and recorded a career-high with 20 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor. The freshman also drained 3-of-5 shots from the three-point line and was a perfect 4-of-4 from the free-throw line. Brown was uncontainable on the glass as the senior recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 15 points and 15 rebounds, seven coming on the offensive glass. As a team, Western Kentucky out-rebounded FAU 47-26 in the game. The Owls (8-8, 4-2) were led by Brittany Bowe and Breana Turner who each tallied 12 points. Carla Stubbs also had another solid game with 10 points, five rebounds and three assists. The senior has now scored in double-figures in four of her last six contests. The Lady Toppers (9-7, 3-2) traded baskets with FAU in the first half with both teams holding slim margins in the opening 20 minutes. The Owls largest advantage came after a Breana Turner jump shot gave FAU a 20-14 lead with 11:09 remaining in the first half. However, WKU took control from there as the Lady Toppers went on a 22-7 run over the next 11 minutes and grabbed a 36-27 lead heading into halftime. A quick 5-0 run for the Owls to start the second half cut the deficit to 36-32 but that was as close as FAU came. Western Kentucky quickly increased the lead up to double-digits after back-to-back three-pointers by Kenzie Rich and Davis made the score 42-32. The Owls clawed back to a six-point deficit after a pair of free-throws by Brittany Bowe and a Carla Stubbs layup made the score 42-36 with 15:06 remaining. The back-breaker for FAU came over the next six minutes though as WKU exploded on a 15-0 run over to essentially put the game out of reach at 57-36. The Owls will be back in action this Saturday with a matchup against Middle Tennessee State in Murfreesboro for a 3 p.m. eastern tip. The Owls handed MTSU their only conference loss last season, defeating the Blue Raiders 73-71 in Boca Raton last February.
