Owls look to Avenge 2008 Tournament Loss at New Orleans The Florida Atlantic University womens basketball team will open conference play on Wednesday, December 16 at 8 p.m. against the University of New Orleans Privateers in New Orleans. Opening conference play on the road is a big challenge for us, said Chancellor Dugan, FAU womens basketball head coach. Our girls are going to be fired up after last years losses and I expect it to be a hard fought affair. FAU lost a pair of games to New Orleans last season including a 67-61 defeat at home in the opening round of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament. The Owls (4-5) will have momentum on their side after defeating in-state rival University of Central Florida with a score of 63-61 on December 12. Senior Carla Stubbs scored a season-high 19 points in the win and senior Erica Caldwell tallied a career-high with 15 points. I thought we gave great effort especially on the defensive end, said Dugan. It is definitely a game that we can build on. The Privateers (6-4) are coming off a 57-33 loss to Louisiana State University on December 13, as New Orleans was held to its lowest point total of the season and made only 13 field goals in the game. As a team, the Privateers are first in the Sun Belt Conference in scoring defense allowing only 56.3 points per game. The Owls compiled a 9-9 record in the Sun Belt Conference last year, the most victories for FAU since joining the Conference prior to the 2006-07 season. Wednesdays game will be broadcast live on www.fausports.com with the pregame show starting at 7:45 p.m.
