"Up Close" with Byron Hankerson

byronhankersonheadshot2010

After walking on at Florida Atlantic this past spring, Byron Hankerson was impressive at times during drill sessions - earning occasional praise from the coaching staff. As a result of this, and losses at the wide receiver spot, Hankerson now finds himself listed in the two-deep heading into fall camp.

Playing high school football at American Heritage High School in Hollywood, Florida, Hankerson enjoyed time on both sides of the ball his senior year and managed 10 receptions for 106 yards to go along with 30 tackles and an interception. Hankerson also helped lead his team to an 11-1 recorded and a playoff win.

Since joining the team, Hankerson says that senior wide receiver Lester Jean has been a big mentor for him. The two often work out together after practice on routes and catching, and some weekends running nearby hills to work on speed training.

Hankerson recently sat down with us for “Up Close”.
