"Up Close" with Ryan Houston

ryanhoustonheadshot2010

Transferring to the Florida Atlantic football program after a freshman season at Division III Mountain Union College, offensive lineman Ryan Houston enters fall practice as one of the Owls' most developed lineman. A redshirt-senior, he has gained valuable practice time with the team the past two seasons after his first year up north. Competing for playing time at one of the guard positions this season, his blocking skills will be needed on the Owls inexperienced offensive line.

Winning a national championship while playing at Mountain Union in 2007, Houston played in every game that season and rotated on the line as a true freshman. While there, he played on an offense that featured now NFL wide receiver Pierre Garçon, and claims the two are good friends even though they have parted ways. Deciding to make the move back down to South Florida, Houston transferred to FAU to be closer to home.

Born in Boynton Beach, Florida, Houston played his high school football at American Heritage North High School. Houston earned All-County honors while playing football and also competed in basketball and track.

Houston recently sat down with us for “Up Close”.
