Volleyball Takes Two on Weekend; Concludes Regular Season Tuesday

The Florida Atlantic University volleyball team swept South Alabama (25-21, 25-21, 25-18) on Sunday.

Nicole Gerig and Ashton Krajewski served the Owls out to a 13-7 lead in the first set, but the Jaguars tied the score at 13. The score was tied at 17 when FAU closed on a 8-4 run to take the set. Anne Vaughan had two blocks and a kill during the decisive rally.

USA stormed out to a 13-5 advantage in the second set before the Owls scored eight consecutive points to tie the set, aided by three Georgia Robinson kills. The score was once again tied at 17 when FAU made another set closing run to take a 2-0 lead.

The third set was tied at four when FAU scored 10 of the next 13 points to take a 14-7 lead.  USA managed to pull within three at 16-13, but couldn’t get any closer and FAU won the set 25-18 to clinch the match.

Robinson and Vaughan tied for a team-high 11 kills. Cintia Nightingale had a match high 19 digs.

On Friday night, team defeated Troy in five sets (25-18, 16-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-9).

After falling behind early in the first set, FAU (11-15, 2-8 Sun Belt) rallied to tie the match at 11. The teams traded the next few points before the Owls went on a 12-5 run to win the set 25-18. Christina Wallinger had five kills and a block during the spree.

Troy (10-17, 2-8) took a lead early in the second set and never relinquished it, winning the set 25-16. The third set was a back and forth affair with neither team managing to gain a lead larger than three points through the early portion of the set. The Trojans closed on a 4-0 run to take the set 25-20 and take a two sets to one advantage.

Set number four featured multiple ties and lead changes. The final tie came at 23, before a Georgia Robinson kill and a Troy attack error tied the match at two sets each. The fifth set was yet another tug-of-war between the two teams. The score was tied at nine when two Robinson kills and four Troy attack errors clinched the match for FAU.

The Owls will return home to close the regular season with a five match homestand, beginning on Tuesday, November 2 vs. FIU. The match will begin at 6:30 p.m.
