Women’s Basketball Drops Heartbreaker to UNF

The FAU women’s basketball team dropped their third straight game on Friday in a 63-61 decision to North Florida at UNF Arena.

“We need to be stronger in late game situations,” said head coach Chancellor Dugan.

The Owls (1-3) held a 42-34 lead with 17 minutes remaining after a three-point field goal from Kalyn Dinkins. The sophomore finished with a career-high 10 points on the night.

The Ospreys (1-2) trailed throughout the remainder of the second half until Maraget Bell gave UNF a 55-54 lead with 4:55 remaining.

Both teams exchanged leads down the stretch as Dinkins and Kimberly Smith each hit clutch three-point baskets to leap frog FAU back on top in the games’ final minutes.

With the game tied at 61-61, and a minute to go, Dinkins and Teri Stamps each had open looks at a go-ahead score but were unable to hit.

After the miss, Larkira Jones was drew the foul on the offensive end and knocked down both free-throws to put the Ospreys in front for good 63-61.

FAU could not get a final shot attempt up to either tie or take the lead as they dropped their third straight game overall and second straight on the road.

Smith led the Owls with 15 points.

The Owls will be back in action on Monday when they return to Boca Raton to take on Eastern Kentucky at 7 p.m.
