SE Louisiana at a Glance

The Lions (Southland Conference 7-9/3rd East 2008-09) kicked off the season with a 99-50 win over the University of Science and Arts (OK) on Friday night. Patrick Sullivan, who had a double-double in last year’s meeting with FAU, had the14th double-double of his career on Friday. The Lions shot 55 percent from the floor and 50 percent from behind the 3-point line on the night. SE Louisiana welcomes five newcomers to its roster while returning three starters. They are not a big team, and do not have a post player over 215 lbs.  However, they do have a solid center in Sullivan.

FAU at a Glance

The Owls are coming off a convincing win against DII Florida Tech last Friday night at FAU Arena, but will be seeking their first road win since the end of 2007-08 season (0-18 in road games last season). Point guard Ray Taylor was three rebounds shy of a triple double (17 points, 10 assists, 7 rebounds).

Junior forward Brett Royster is two blocks away from setting the all-time FAU record for career blocked shots. Cedric Peoples currently holds the record with 119.

The Owls defensive and transition scoring game has improved significantly over last year's showing.

Owl's Nest Prediction

The Owls were not supposed to beat the Lions last season in Boca Raton.  As fate would have it, they shot the lights out while finishing the contest at a staggering 59.2% from the floor. The stunned Lions could not recover, and self imploded with poor shooting and frustration.  However, this game is not friendly confines.  And FAU has not won a game on the road in, well, a very long time.

The Owls will score points in transition again despite the upgrade in defensive athleticism the Lions offer. Jarvis said to expect some different defensive looks from the Owls as well.

For the Lion's, the loss of leading scorer G/F Kevyn Green (19.2PPG, 42.6% 3PT) will need to be addressed.

This game should be close. How close? Too close to call.  But we'll go with FAU.
