Dates Announced for FAU Football's Inaugural American Schedule

Having departed Conference USA, FAU Football will now look forward to both familiar faces and new ones in 2023.

And on Tuesday they got more clarity on when they will take the field against them, as the American portion of the upcoming schedule of contests received an official date lineup from the league office.

"Really excited about the American portion of the schedule", said Head Coach Tom Herman. "Haven't been a head coach in this league, understand how challenging this conference can be, and we're excited to be a part of it."

The team will kick-off the season with a pair of non-conference games in Boca Raton against FBS Monmouth before a pivotal rematch with Ohio, who came away with a win over the Owls last year in Athens.

"I think it will be very important to get off to a good start - especially with two home games - knowing what games three and four have in store for us and going on the road in back-to-back weeks to Power 5 schools", Herman said.

Completing non-league tilts are money games at Clemson on September 16th, and Illinois on September 23rd. And in what could be seen as advantageous fortune, the team's bye week will be in order for week five of the season - allowing a full two weeks to game plan and get prepared.

"The good thing is that we have an off week after that where we can regroup and head into conference play", said Herman.

The Owls will kick off the American Conference era at home with a reuniting with Tulsa, who they are even with at 1-1 all time on October 7th. The Golden Hurricane came away with a 47-44 home win in overtime during the last meeting between the programs.

Immediately hitting the "road" thereafter, the team will enjoy a short cruise up the Turnpike to face newly minted Sunshine State conference rival South Florida on the 14th.

Former C-USA member and 2022 Champion UTSA will be the next opponent to visit Schnellenberger Field for week 8 on October 21st. Florida Atlantic is 3-0 against the Road Runners.

Rounding out the home portion of the season will be two completely new teams for the Owls in that of Eastern Carolina, who will visit Boca Raton on November 11th, and 2022 post season #9 Tulane who checks in the following weekend on the 18th.

FAU will take on a primarily former C-USA line-up during road play for 2023, first travelling to Charlotte for a Friday night lights affair on October 27th before later matching up against UAB to kick-off November play on the 4th.

The season finale will take place in Houston, TX on November 25th with the Battle of the Owls versus Rice University. Below is the full schedule as it stands:

Television arrangements will be forthcoming and the schedule is subject to revision should the need arise to accommodate potential selections.

Ahead of the official start to the regular season, Florida Atlantic will kick-off their spring drills and practice sessions on Tuesday, March 14th at the Schmidt Center.

"Obviously we've seen the guys run around in shorts, and lift weights, and all of that but to get them in pads and in the game of football is really exciting", Herman said.
