FAU Blitzes Tulsa 50-21

For the first time this year, FAU played a home game.

For the first time ever, FAU donned red helmets.

For the first time as a head coach, Charlie Partridge can leave a game as a winner.

FAU played like how their heads looked tonight.

On fire.

FAU (1-2) scored the game's first 17 points and never looked back, defeating Tulsa (1-2) 50-21.

Quarterback Jaquez Johnson hooked up with William Dukes for a career long 74 yard pass to score the games first touchdown, giving the Owls a 10-0 lead.

Not to be outdone, the defense joined in on the barrage as cornerback D'Joun Smith returned a 23 yard interception for a touchdown to give FAU a 17-0 lead to end the scoring for the first quarter.

The first quarter set the tone of the game as FAU outplayed the Golden Hurricanes right from the start. Tulsa gained 33 yards on 16 plays with four first downs in the first quarter, while FAU ran 17 plays for 178 yards with four first downs, averaging 10.4 yards per play.

The Golden Hurricanes ended FAU's 17-0 run with a 10 play, 89 yard touchdown drive as Dane Evans connected with Conner Floyd.

That was all the points the FAU defense would allow as Tulsa would fail to score again in the first half.

FAU would score the half's final 16 points in a span of 2:46 as Johnson would connect with Alex Deleon and Jenson Stoshak for 14 yard and 59 touchdown passes respectively. The defense would go on to force a safety putting the score 33-7 at the half and the game out of reach.

FAU finished the game with 518 total yards of offense.

"I am proud that the football team was able to bounce back after two tough losses and stay the course," said coach Partridge who changed his pants to red after halftime in dedication to the students filling the student section.

"To me it is about them. It is about the students."

Many Owls had their career firsts.

Jenson Stoshak (pictured) had a career day, hauling in four catches, for a career high 155 yards and one touchdown.

Trevon Cooley had his first career interception.

More importantly FAU got the win. Charlie Partridge's first career win as a head coach.

"It means a lot that I could get my first win on a night where Howard Schnellenberger was honored," said coach partridge. "To be a small part of that and to give him a win and the students a win that came out to support us tonight…that means a lot to me."

Although the win showcased substantial improvement in many areas, Coach Partridge still saw room for improvement as the Owls looks ahead to their next game against Wyoming this upcoming Saturday in Laramie.

"Our defense played well, but they got some yardage in late as we were starting to work in some new guys that were out of position, but there is still a lot to be proud of."
