Practice Notes for 09-04-10

tonymoore09-04-10
The football team spent some time this afternoon working on corrections from Thursday night's dramatic win against UAB before moving into to the "Toilet Bowl" scrimmage, which features players who did not participate in the contest.

The session avoids the use of individual substitutions to allow for stamina in the event of insertion into a game situation.

Amongst some of the highlights, Full backs Tony Moore and Chris Jackson each had TD's for the offense while walk-on DB Christen Milstead, of Woodbine, GA had an INT and pass break-up for the defense.

Although there was some solid hitting going on in what the players consider a long running "intense" scrimmage, Coach Schnellenberger would liked to have seen a little better effort in two specific areas.

"It was a good defensive scrimmage, they usually are this time of year, but I was disappointed that the pursuit and gang tackling wasn't as good and that we couldn't protect the quarterback at all", said Schnellenberger.

Rusty Smith was still on the roster after the Titan's made their cuts down to 53 today, and Coach Schnellenberger is optimistic he will appear on the opening day roster that will be submitted prior to the game. "So far so good", he said.

Practice ended with Coach calling for gassers.

"I ran them because we haven't run much since we've been at camp", said Schnellenberger. "We've got some extra time this week, and they've got time to recover from what we are doing out there."

The Owls will have another able body in the mix for next weekend as OL Samuel McRoy, who had been sidelined with an injury, participated in full contact action today.

Quick Hits:

"I'm proud of the offensive line, they went out there and stuck together. They're going to be a very good line"

- Schnellenberger on the offensive line

"We didn't have much pain."

- Schnellenberger on the lack on injuries in the UAB contest

Receiving a bonus practice day this week, FAU will move into preparations for Michigan State tomorrow at approximately 3:30 p.m.
