Fearless Predictions Week Four - UNT @ FAU

fearlesspredictions2010week4

Week four is here and there are numerous SBC games with serious implications. Three games have conference opponents facing off and one game could provide the SBC with some national attention. Here they are:

09/25 Florida Atlantic vs. North Texas

FAU comes into this game at 1-1 and opens conference play at home. A win for FAU will put the Owls on the right track as they head into the meat of the SBC schedule. The O-line was the big question mark for the Owls coming into the season and it seems to be coming together nicely. QB Jeff Van Camp has looked strong with WR Lester Jean and TE Rob Housler getting off to fast starts. North Texas will be limping into Lockhart with major changes at quarterback and center. However, the Owls cannot afford to overlook the Mean Green. North Texas will attempt to control the clock and lean on star RB Lance Dunbar. In the end UNT has too many obstacles to overcome and the FAU offense will shine. Expect FAU RB Alfred Morris to hit the 100 yard mark and QB Jeff Van Camp to have 300+ yards through the air. FAU rolls.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Florida Atlantic 38
North Texas 17

09/25 Troy vs. Arkansas State

Troy opens conference after back to back losses in the past two weeks. In those losses the Trojans lost by a total of 4 points. The biggest question for Troy is whether or not they can rebound and come in with the right mindset to gain an early conference victory. Arkansas State stands at 1-1 in the SBC. The Red Wolves cannot afford a second conference loss this early in the season if they hope to make a run at the SBC title. Both teams will put the ball in the air a lot with Troy being the more balanced of the two. This game will be a dogfight, but Troy's ability to run the ball will be difference.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Troy 27
Arkansas State 21

09/25 Louisiana (Lafayette) vs. Middle Tennessee

Middle Tennessee visits Louisiana with a 1-2 record in tow. MTSU's only win of this young season came against FCS opponent Austin Peay. The Blue Raider's are still trying to find an identity after the suspension of All-SBC QB Dwight Dasher. MTSU has worked two QBs into a rotation with an outcome of only 2tds to 5 ints. Fortunately the Blue Raiders have found success running the ball with a 3 back rotation. Louisiana is 1-0 in conference play and they could take an early lead in the SBC standings with a win over MTSU. Louisiana's QB play has been sporadic and they have yet to establish a consistent rushing attack. MTSU has the talent to win this game. If the Blue Raiders limit the turnovers they will walk away having secured their first conference victory of the season.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Middle Tennessee 24
Louisiana 20

09/25 Florida International @ Maryland

FIU faces ACC opponent Maryland in a game that might turn some heads. The Golden Panthers are 0-2 after having lost to BCS conference opponents Rutgers (BIGEAST) and Texas A&M (BIG12) by a total of 12 points. FIU has the athleticism to compete with a 2-1 Maryland team. The FIU defense has shown up early in the season giving up only 23 points per game. Maryland has scored 32 points per game however that number is heavily inflated by the 62 that the Terrapins scored against FCS opponent Morgan State. Take away that game and the Terps have only scored 17 points per contest. FIU needs more consistency in the passing game as QB Wesley Carroll has completed only 47% of his passes with 2tds to 3ints. Receiver/returner T.Y. Hilton gives FIU a chance in this game if QB play improves and the defense holds steady. I sense an upset brewing in Annapolis.

FEARLESS PREDICTION:
Florida International 24
Maryland 21

In non-SBC action keep an eye on the Miami Hurricanes as they head to Pittsburgh to face the Panthers on Thursday night. South Carolina travels to Auburn in a game that has serious implications for the SEC and Alabama hits the road to face a good Arkansas team. Boise State also looks to keep pace in the race for BCS championship as they take on a ranked Oregon State team on the blue turf. Lots of good games this weekend. Kick back, pop the top on a cold beverage and enjoy.
