Florida Atlantic fell 9-3 to Louisiana on Friday night in the 1,000th game at M.L. “Tigue” Moore Field.

The Ragin’ Cajuns (12-10, 3-4) were paced by starting pitcher Zach Osborne. The reigning Sun Belt “Pitcher of the Week” threw a complete game giving up eight hits and three earned runs with one walk and seven strikeouts.

“He was good tonight,” said head coach John McCormack. “We got him into some jams but we just couldn’t capitalize.”

The Owls (13-8, 4-3) allowed a run in each of the first six innings as Ryan Garton (2-1) struggled in his first start of the season. The sophomore gave up 11 hits and seven runs (six earned) in only 3.1 innings pitched while striking out five and issuing one walk.

A two-out rally in the top of the fourth got the Owls on the board for the first time. Nick Delguidice, Eddie Cassidy and Mike Albaladejo hit back-to-back-to-back doubles with two outs to bring FAU within 4-2. However, the Ragin’ Cajuns would score three runs in the bottom half of the inning, two off the bat of a Chad Keefer two-run home run to inflate the lead back to 7-2.

Cassidy knocked in the final FAU run of the night with a single to left field in the sixth. The designated hitter finished the game 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.

“We will come back fighting tomorrow, it’s only game one of the series and we have two more opportunities,” McCormack said.

The teams continue the series tomorrow at 4:07 p.m. RHP Mike Gipson (4-0, 1.80) will start for FAU and will face LHP T.J. Geith (2-1, 5.90). The game will be televised locally on the Sun Belt Network (CSS).
