Owls Place Six on 2015 C-USA Baseball's All Conference Teams

Florida Atlantic University baseball’s Brendon Sanger earned the top honor of the season, named the “Conference USA Player of the Year” as voted on by league coaches, sports information directors and media representatives.

CJ Chatham, Ricky Santiago, Drew Jackson, Roman Collins and Ryan Miller also earned spots on the All-Conference teams for their impressive performances in 2015.

Sanger (pictured) started all 53 games for the Owls and finished the season leading C-USA in batting average (.377), walks (49) and on-base percentage (.494). He was second in the league in hits (78) and runs scored (49), third in triples (4) and total bases (122) and seventh in RBI (44). Sanger became the all-time leader in triples at FAU with 10 triples in his career and has reached base safely in 58 of FAU’s last 60 games.

The junior becomes the fourth player in FAU history to be named a conference player of the year, joining Todd Moser (A-Sun, 1999), Robbie Widlansky (Sun Belt, 2007) and Mike McKenna (Sun Belt, 2008).

Chatham joins Sanger as a First Team All-Conference member, batting an impressive .383 with 27 RBI C-USA in league play. On the year, the sophomore leads FAU and C-USA with 22 doubles and has three triples and two home runs. Sanger and Chatham rank No. 1 and No. 2 in the league in overall batting average, respectively.

Seniors Santiago and Jackson and junior Collins earned Second Team recognition for their performances. Santiago leads the Owls with eight home runs, batting .326 in his 52 starts. The captain ranks third in C-USA with 19 doubles and ranks seventh in slugging percentage.

Jackson has allowed the fewest earned runs in the league and boasts the second-best ERA in C-USA with a 2.09. His 47 hits allowed also ranks second in C-USA. Jackson has struck out 40 batters while walking just 14 in more than 60 innings of work.

Collins leads FAU and ranks third in C-USA with 50 RBI. His five triples is a league-high while his 44 runs scored is the sixth most in the league. The outfielder has started all 53 games for the Owls, hitting six home runs and 11 doubles with 32 walks.

Miller earned a spot on the 12-member C-USA All-Freshman team, playing in 38 games with 27 starts behind the plate. The Sarasota native has the second-most pickoffs in C-USA this year, picking off four runners while catching three attempting to steal. Miller owns six doubles and a home run and hit his first career triple at Western Kentucky, helping FAU break a team record with the Owls’ third triple in the game. Miller boasts an on-base percentage of .411 with the help of 17 walks.

FAU opens the 2015 C-USA Championship Tournament as the No. 2-seeded Owls (38-15, 19-10 C-USA) face off against Old Dominion on Wednesday, May 20 at 5 p.m.
