Gantt Scores Career High as Owls Cruise Past Stetson

Moody drops 9-of-11 at the line in second half

Greg Gantt poured in a career-high 34 points on Thursday night, as Florida Atlantic won their second consecutive game by taking down Stetson 88-78 on the road in DeLand.

Gantt started the contest a perfect 8-of-8 from the field and had 21 of his points in the first period.

The win moves the Owls to 4-4 on the year.

“It was a great win, the second one in a row", said head Coach Mike Jarvis. "The guys came into an opposing team’s house and took control of the game from the very beginning and jumped out."

"I thought (Gantt) was going to have 60 points, as he didn't miss a shot in the first 10 minutes of the game,” said Jarvis.

The Owls led 41-28 at the break after scoring the most points in the opening half of a contest all season long.

But the Hatters (2-5), who were led by Adam Pegg's 24 points, put up a fight by trimming the margin to just seven at 58-51 midway through the second half.

Florida Atlantic would find strength in youthful form, as freshman guard Stefan Moody scored 15 of his 17 points off the bench during the frame, and was 9-of-11 from the free throw line; which helped to secure the win.

Four players scored in double figures, with Bertone and Jordan McCoy adding 12 points apiece.

“Every time they had a run we had an answer for it. It was a great team effort,” Jarvis said.

Gantt finished the game 13-of-23 from the floor and was an impressive 5-of-8 from behind the arc.

The Owls had a season best 11 steals on the night, surpassing their former mark of nine against Mississippi State in the second game of the season.

FAU will return to the hardwood next Sunday at 3:00 PM, taking on Warner University in The Burrow.
