No. 21 Denver Too Much for FAU Women’s Soccer

Nationally ranked University of Denver remained perfect in Sun Belt Conference action by picking up a 3-0 victory over the Florida Atlantic University women’s soccer team on Friday night.

The Owls fall to 3-4 in conference play, 4-10 on the fall campaign and are still seeking their first road victory of the season. The host Pioneers extended their winning streak to eight matches and have allowed just one goal in league matches.

Denver took control early as Bria Beardsley scored in the sixth minute of the contest. Then, Kaitlin Bast gave the Pioneers some insurance with a goal in the 24th minute. Kalie Vaughn rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 56th minute.

FAU played better in the second half when it recorded six of its eight shots. Sophomore forward Allison Griffin and freshman forward Jesse Shugg each tallied two shots. Meanwhile, having one shot apiece were freshman forward Marisa Russo, senior forward Laura Hyvonen, and sophomore defenders Breanna Lewis and Tamara Kesser.

The Owls now turn their attention to Sunday’s match at the University of North Texas in Denton. Kickoff is set for 2 p.m.
