Volleyball: Owls Split Second Day of Stetson Invitational

Kristyna Dzmuranova tied her career high with 15 kills in the Florida Atlantic University’s volleyball team three game sweep of Bethune Cookman on Saturday.

The victory helped FAU (6-2) salvage a split on Day 2 of the Stetson Invitational after losing to Wyoming in its first game of the day.

FAU and Wyoming were tied at five in the first set, then the Cowgirls went on a 20-7 spurt to take a 1-0 lead. Wyoming kept its momentum going early in set number two, taking a 4-0 lead. FAU trailed 10-4 in the second set went they outscored UW 21-10 the rest of the set to win the set 25-20 and tie the match at one set each. FAU scored the first five points of set four, but Wyoming used a 12-3 scoring run to clinch the match with a 25-16 win.

The Owls used extended service runs by Kristyna Dzmuranova and Nicole Gerig to take the first set from Bethune Cookman 25-18. Dzmuranova had seven kills in the second set as the Owls built a lead as large as 10 points, eventually taking set number two 25-21. The two teams battled for control for most of third set, including several ties. The set was tied at 18 when the Owls closed on a 7-4 run to take a 25-22 match clinching win.

FAU will travel to Orlando next weekend for the Courtyard by Marriott/UCF Classic.
