Lyrell Barfield saw her first action of the season on Monday night, scoring 11 points, as the Florida Atlantic women's basketball team ended a three-game losing streak downing Eastern Kentucky 60-57.
“We have a lot more maturity on the floor when she plays,” said head coach Chancellor Dugan. “When she is out there she provides another calming presence for the ladies to look to when the game gets tight.”
The Owls (2-3) faced a 26-20 deficit at halftime after shooting just 8-of-35 in the first half.
Kimberly Smith hit her only field goal with 8:50 remaining to give Florida Atlantic its first lead at 41-40.
The Owls went then went 11-of-13 from the charity stripe to help put the game away.
Vontrice Dennis recorded her third double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
The Owls next face Miami in the Hurricanes' Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday at 7:00 p.m.
