Florida Atlantic (3-11, 0-3) fell to South Alabama 65-53 tonight in the Owls’ Sun Belt home opener at FAU Arena.
Despite staying relatively even in rebounds and turnovers, and going 11-of-13 from the line, the Owls connected on just 6-of-27 of their attempts from beyond the arc (22.2%).
The Jaguars (9-6, 1-2), who ironically fared worse from long range (2-of-16), held just a three point advantage at the break but were able to increase that margin in the second half behind consistency from the floor overall.
FAU's Lyrell Barfield was the game's leading scorer with 16 points, while Breana Turner contributed 14 points and five rebounds.
The Owls return to FAU Arena Saturday to take on Arkansas State in hopes of snapping a five game skid. Tip-off time is 3:00 p.m.
