Florida Atlantic (3-10, 0-2) posted their second conference loss today 64-57 against Troy (4-11, 1-1) in a Sun Belt network televised match-up. The two teams accumulated a staggering 57 turnovers collectively, but the Trojans took advantage on the backboard 44-30.
“We need to be better on the glass,” said head coach Chancellor Dugan. “If we can’t rebound then we are going to have trouble finding a way to win games.”
With the Owls trailing by only four points at the break, the Trojans would push their lead to 56-39 with six minutes to play.
But a Takia Brooks three pointer with :47 remaining capped an 18-8 run by Florida Atlantic, and put FAU within striking distance at 59-57. Lyrell Barfield's steal shortly after would set up Teri Stamps with an attempt at the go ahead basket, but her shot from long range was off the mark.
The Trojans then connected on 5-of-6 from the line to close out the game.
Stamps led the Owls offensively with 12 points, while Dalita Scott added 10 points and a team high 5 rebounds.
The Owls return to FAU Arena on Wednesday for a conference tilt against South Alabama at 7:00 p.m.
