The women’s soccer team enjoyed their first lead of the season tonight at the Hurricane Cup but could not hold on, falling 2-1 to North Dakota State University (3-0-2) in tournament play at the University of Miami.
The match remained tied at the half, but a free kick by FAU’s Gabriela DeVries early in the second period resulted in flicker goal by Jesse Shugg to give the Owls a 1-0 lead.
However, the Bisons would step up the attack afterwards with scores from Morgan DeMike and Holly Christian to take the match 2-1.
FAU outshot NDSU 12-9 in total, but was trumped 5-3 in shots on goal.
Shugg accounted for seven of the Owl’s attempts.
Florida Atlantic (0-5) will next face West Virginia University on Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
