2019 NOTABLES: FAU vs WKU
Florida Atlantic (6-3, 4-1) is now Bowl Eligible. Below are our notables from their 35-24 victory over the Hilltoppers today, with FIU coming to FAU Stadium next Saturday for Shula Bowl XVIII.
- The Owls improved to 8-3 all-time against the Hilltoppers
- Coach Lane Kiffin moved to 3-0 against the Kentucky foe
- FAU trailed 14-0 at the 8:37 mark of the 2nd quarter
- Less than 8:00 minutes later it was 21-14 for the Owls
- DB Chris Tooley's (photo) fumble recovery was the 1st 2019 defensive TD
- DB James Pierre netted his 2nd INT on the year in the 3rd quarter
- This is only the 2nd time the Owls are bowl eligible after 9 games
- FAU had -11 1st half rushing YDS but 200 in the 2nd half
- The Owls picked off WKU QB Ty Storey three times for the contest
- Storey had not been intercepted at home all season
- P Matt Hayball boomed a punt 77 YDS for a new FAU record
- LB Akileis Leroy recorded a career high 12 tackles
- RB's James Charles (65) & Chauncey Mason (60) combined for 125 YDS
- Both set career highs in the process
- FAU beat the game spread by 12 points
