MID-WEEK MASH-UP: Wagner vs FAU

After an encouraging win at Ball State, the Owls will host FCS Wagner this Saturday for family weekend on campus.

Kickoff is set to begin at 6:00 at FAU Stadium.

FAU took steps forward in all three phases of the game against Ball State and will look to continue the momentum.

It is also important to recognize the first four games on the schedule this season are non-conference matchups.

“Our goal is to always win the conference”, Lane Kiffin said to reporters today. FAU`s conference opener is set for September 28th at Charlotte.

Below is our compilation of notables, and some video as we reach the mid-point of Game Week.

Mid-Week Mashup

  • Rashad Smith and Chris Robison recognized Senior LB Rashad Smith was named Conference USA Defensive Player Of The Week for his efforts against Ball State. Smith had a monster line, recording 6 tackles, 2 fumble recoveries, 2 tackles for loss and a sack. On the offensive end, QB Chris Robison was named one of the Stars of The Week by the Manning Award. Robison finished Saturday`s game with 366 passing yards and 4 touchdowns.

  • Key Matchup As OL BJ Etienne told reporters this week the Wagner defense can play. “Their defensive line is real good, their defense front is probably the strength of their team,” said the starting guard. The front seven is led by FCS preseason All-American LB Cam Gill. The senior had 13.5 sacks last season. FAU`s tackles will have to manage Gill coming off the edge to help sustain offensive drives.

  • By the Numbers Against Ball State the Owls had 9 players catch a pass. Ball distribution such as this is key in keeping the ball moving and taking advantage of all the offensive tools the Owls have to offer. The Owls depth in the slot: Wright, Cousart, Antoine could cause trouble against the Wagner defense.

  • Breakout Candidate Former Royal Palm Beach High School star S Da'Von Brown (pictured above) had a huge fall camp. One of his best moments was an impressive interception in the first scrimmage. The starting safety is one of the vocal leaders on the defense. Expect a huge day from the Belle Glade native. “Our defensive emphasis this week has been tackling,” Lane Kiffin said today. Brown is one of the harder hitters in the FAU defense.
