The number of defensive lineman in the Florida Atlantic football team's Class of 2024 continues to rise. And this time it is in a coveted area of specialty, with the commitment of defensive end passing rusher August Salvati, who will be transferring from Kilgore College when he makes his way to Boca Raton this summer.
And he knows what he wants to accomplish.
"I'm coming to FAU to win an American Conference Championship then go into the NFL," said Salvati.
Making his announcement on Monday afternoon, Salvati leaves the Rangers following a 2023 campaign where he finished with 29 tackles (25 solo), seven sacks, and one fumble recovery in 10 games. He helped Kilgore College end the year with a 9-2 record, including an impressive 7-1 display in conference play, as they reached the NJCAA semifinals.
His best game this past season came against Blinn College on November 4th. He recorded a career-high 10 tackles (nine solo) and 0.5 sacks, as he also recovered a fumble in a solid 38-28 victory. His overall performances earned him honorable mention status by the Southwest Junior College Football Conference.
Salvati is now the 33rd member of FAU's expanding 2024 class. He chose the Owls over Ohio, Charlotte, UMass, Southeastern Louisiana, and Louisiana-Monroe among others. He took an official visit to Ohio on January 14th, but ultimately preferred what head Coach Tom Herman and his staff had to offer.
"I chose FAU because Coach Cibene and the rest of the staff has shown non-stop belief in me, and they can get me to the next level," Salvati said. "FAU is where I belong, these coaches care and there could not be a better fit."
He becomes the sixth defensive player to transfer to the Owls for the 2024 season, joining the likes of defensive backs Cameron Goggins from Georgia Military College and Wendol Philord Jr. from Keiser, linebacker Kyler Laing from Buffalo, cornerback Kahzir Brown from Maine, and defensive lineman Chisom Ifeanyi from Shippensburg.
