There has been some poaching going in the American Athletic Conference.

The Florida Atlantic football program just got a mid-season commitment from Char'Quez Lee, a recruit who first committed to East Carolina before switching his allegiance to the Owls this Tuesday afternoon.

This is a significant addition to the Owls' 2024 class, who initially pursued his services over the summer. Lee made treks to FAU on June 2nd, UCF on June 9th, and Appalachian State on June 15th before rolling into Greenville on June 22nd.

Following these visits, he would announce his original pledge to the Pirates two weeks later on July 3rd.

Rated as a three-star recruit on 247Sports, he is coming off a junior season where he made an astounding 100 tackles (60 solo) including seven for a loss of yardage, deflected a pass, recovered a fumble, and made an interception.

His total tackles ranked him at the top in 2M District 14, 27th in Division 2M, and 175th in the state of Florida.

Lee hasn't missed a step in his senior campaign, putting up 40 tackles (24 solo) including six for a loss of yardage, and got a sack which resulted in a loss of four yards.

Head coach Tom Herman recently attended Miami Palmetto's game against Coral Gables on September 29th to observe Lee, and fellow teammate and FAU commit Lawrence Johnson.

The visit paid dividends as Lee made four tackles (three solo) in a 35-0 victory.

High school football reporter Larry Blustein views him as a dominating football talent, complimenting his strength, quickness, agility, and big frame.

"As a player, he has tremendous instincts and is a playmaker. Watching before he was on the radar as a sophomore, you could tell that this was going to be someone special and he is well on the way," Blustein said.

His midseason highlights for this year can be seen below:

Lee is now the 16th member of FAU's growing 2024 class. He chose the Owls over East Carolina, Illinois, UCF, Appalachian State, and FIU among others.

He also becomes the third linebacker to insert himself into the group, joining the likes of Remington Roberts from Fort Lauderdale High School and Jarvis Johnson Jr. from Westminster Christian High School.
