Owls Land a DB

It didn't take long for FAU to benefit from their win over USF.

Sunday morning, Mount Dora (Fla.) cornerback Jefferson Vea gave a verbal pledge to the Owls and became the 8th commitment in the class of 2014.

Vea, a physical corner who can play at the line of scrimmage, called assistant coach Ross Watson and gave him the news after watching Saturday night's game.

"I watched FAU beat up on USF," Vea said. "I chose FAU because it's where I always wanted to play and I wanted to focus more on this season and work hard to be apart of FAU."

The Owls are slated to lose two cornerbacks to graduation after this season, which could mean there will be an opportunity for early playing time.

The 6-foot 175-pound defender selected FAU over offers from Bowling Green, Ohio, Kent State, Memphis, FIU and Georgia Southern.

Vea recorded 25 tackles, four interceptions and nine pass break-ups his junior season, which was good enough to earn him All-District honors. Mount Dora went 8-3 last season and lost in the first round of the Class 4-A state playoffs.

He becomes the third player in the recruiting cycle to commit to FAU from the Central Florida area and is ranked 37th inside the Orlando Sentinel's 2014 Super60.

His junior season highlights can be seen here.
