Everist strikes out eight in loss The University of Missouri Tigers made the most out of their six hits en route to knocking off the Florida Atlantic University baseball team 4-2 on Friday afternoon in the Auburn Classic at Plainsman Park in Auburn, Ala. The Tigers were out-hit by a slim 7-6 margin but scored two runs in the first inning and two more runs in their last at-bat of the afternoon in the ninth to seal the victory. Missouri improves to 3-1 on the spring season and will play the host Tigers on Saturday. Missouri jumped on the Owls quickly with two runs in the first inning to grab the early momentum. A Brett Nicholas base hit to left field plated Brandon Champagne from second base to give the Tigers a 1-0 advantage. Nicholas would later score on a double by Aaron Senne. FAU junior Andy Mee cut the deficit in half with a home run to left field to lead off the sixth inning. The Tigers added two important insurance runs in the ninth inning off the FAU bullpen as the lead grew to 4-1. Florida Atlantic mounted a rally with two outs as senior Anthony Mesa doubled to left center field that scored junior Nick Delguidice. Junior right hander Taylor Everist suffered his second loss of the season despite striking out a career-high eight batters. He scattered five hits in seven innings and has allowed just three earned runs this season. Junior first baseman Dan Scheffler paced the offensive attack with two hits that included a triple.
