Mee tallies three hits and third save of the season Andy Mees has done it all for the Owls so far this season, and he showcased his versatility again on Saturday afternoon. The junior college transfer went 3-for-5 with a home run, two runs scored and an RBI in addition to pitching a perfect ninth to earn his third save of the season in a 4-3 FAU victory on Saturday at Tigue Moore Field. Cant say enough about Andy, said head coach John McCormack. He is a leader and we look to him. The Owls (14-8, 5-3) did not have a hit until the fourth inning, when Mee connected on his fifth home run of the season, a shot over the left field wall, to tie the game at 1-1. Jordan Poirriers two-run triple gave the Ragin Cajuns (12-11, 3-5) a 3-1 lead in the fifth, however the Owls battled back to score runs in the seventh and eighth to take the lead for good. Poirrier tallied all three RBIs in the game for Louisiana. After a scoreless seventh by FAU starter Mike Gipson, the Owls rallied off reliever Taylor Hubble (1-3) to score two runs and take the lead in the top of the eighth. After a Mee single led off the inning, Dan Scheffler worked a walk after seeing 17 pitches in the at-bat. The next batter, Colby Gratton, recorded the game-tying RBI with a ground rule double to right field. Nick Delguidice followed with the go-ahead run on a sacrifice fly to plate Scheffler and put FAU in front 4-3. Scheffler, Gratton and Delguidice all had rough days up to that point, and they all came up big in that inning, McCormack said. Gipson (5-0) remained perfect on the season and battled through eight innings while giving up nine hits and three earned runs. The right-handed did not walk a batter and struck out five after throwing 117 pitches. He could smell it, McCormack said. We talked about it and we decided that if we took the lead he was going to go back out for the eighth. I thought he pitched well the whole day except for a few pitches here and there. Mee came on to pitch a perfect ninth to slam the door and even the series at 1-1. The Owls and Cajuns will finalize the three-game series with the rubber match tomorrow afternoon. RHP Kevin Alexander (2-2, 6.04) will start for FAU while RHP Michael Cook (1-1, 3.45) will be on the mound for Louisiana. First pitch is scheduled for 1:06 p.m. eastern. Discussion Box Score
