Owls Belt Five Homers in 13-1 Win Over ULM

Bukovich goes 4-for-4 with two HR and three RBI Florida Atlantic (25-15, 14-7) invoked the Sun Belt’s Sunday mercy rule in a 13-1 win over Louisiana-Monroe to take the weekend series 2-1. The Owls belted a season high five homeruns on the afternoon – including shots from Sean Bukovich (2), Eddie Cassidy, Nick DelGuidice, and Dan Scheffler – and have now won six of seven conference series. The offensive display is the most runs scored by Florida Atlantic since defeating Troy 13-8 back on March 12th. FAU struggled a bit early as Warhawk starter Jordy Poche was able to retire five Owls by way of strikeout. Bukovich put FAU on the board in the top of second with his first homerun of the day, a solo shot to right center. The Owls picked up three more in the third as Cassidy’s blast to left center brought in Andy Mee and Scheffler. Florida Atlantic’s big inning came in the fourth. Andy Mee led off with a single and an unsettled Poche then struck the next two batters he faced in Scheffler and Cassidy. That opened the door for DelGuidice’s homer – a grand slam to left. FAU tacked on one more in the sixth and three more in the seventh to end the game. Owls’ starter R.J. Alavarez had a productive afternoon holding the Warhawks (15-24, 5-13) to just one run, on five hits, while striking out five in six innings of action. Bukovich led the Owls with a 4-for-4, three RBI performance. ULM’s lone run came on a Nick Wade solo shot in the bottom of the third inning. The Owls will be back in action this Wednesday to take on state opponent Bethune Cookman. First pitch is 4:00 p.m. Box Score Discussion
