Keep in mind these things are always subject to change in July, but have put together what should be the 2010-011 schedule for mens hoops. While the home court visiting talent is light in some regards, there is a jewel in an appearance from the South Florida Bulls at FAU Arena. View Tentative Schedule Here FAU had a tough time keeping up 40 minutes of play last year in Tampa, but that should change this season. The season is also kicking off a week earlier than last year with Northwood opening exhibition action on November 4th. Another SEC opponent, in that of Mississippi State, has been added as the third contest of a three game money road swing surrounding Thanksgiving UF, George Mason, MSU. Have to get paid to run the program Anyone thinking the loss of draft selection, and NCAA all time single season shot blocking leader, Jarvis Varnado is a plus may want to think again. The rebels will be loaded once again – and talented. On a familiar note, Warner University will come to the Burrow again…Sure everyone is very excited about that! Especially given that it took three OT’s to pull it out last time around. But one thing is for sure, this is not the same FAU team they faced last December. Overall a pretty good slate, although the above road trip and a five game mid December hiatus will be the challenges. And with New Orleans now gone, the total amount of conference games goes from 18 to 16. Per the league office each school has the right to request to move a game should they have need. And there ended up being a handful of contests that host schools (not the conference) requested to move to Sundays. Accordingly, the Owls have two Sun Belt games games slated for Sunday at the present time – December 19th and February 27th. Another observation to point out is that games between WKU and MTSU are much closer this year than last with only a couple weeks in between. Last year they were six weeks apart. Obviously this could make for less disparity when you see a team for the second time in a short period, and is not the preferred arrangement. But “it is what it is”. And if you win, it doesn’t matter anyway. January and February will feature a home court advantage once again, with the Owls playing nine at home and six on the road. Good way to finish down the stretch when it counts most
