“Up Close” with Greg Gantt

Sharpshooter Greg Gantt had quite an impressive first season at Florida Atlantic while setting program records for most threes in a season by a freshman and most points scored by a freshman. Gantt led the Owls in scoring at 15.6 ppg, a top five finish amongst all league players, and claimed the top spot in three pointers per game with 2.8 per outing, while connecting on a team high 39% of his attempts. Accordingly, he should have the starting two spot sewn up to begin this year’s slate. While Gantt is quite capable as a scorer, head Coach Mike Jarvis is expecting even more out of the Gainesville native – on both sides of the floor. “Looking for Greg to be an even better shooter, but also be able to create more off the dribble and get more shots around the basket”, Jarvis said. “But what I looking from him most of all, is to start to become a defensive player.” The fact that Gantt is even playing basketball is something he is very grateful for, even to this day. “I was born premature”, said Gantt. “They said I wasn’t supposed to live, and that if I did live, that I would be handicapped.” “I made it throughout the doubts that the doctor had about me…and thank God everyday that I am alive, well, and able to do what I am able to do.” Gantt recently sat down with us for “Up Close”.
