Cam Fancher QB 6-1, 201 Transfer Marshall The Florida Atlantic football team is retooling their strength at quarterback, getting a significant addition in the position in Cam Fancher, who is transferring from Marshall and will make his way to Boca Raton next year. Declaring his allegiance on Friday afternoon, Fancher leaves the Thundering Herd after three seasons. In 25 career games, he threw for 3,766 yards 21 touchdowns, and 17 interceptions with a completion rate of 61%. He also rushed for 757 yards and five touchdowns on 232 carries. This past year was his most active as a passer, achieving career-highs in passing yards with 2,162 and touchdowns with 11. His interceptions also got an uptick, reaching 11 as well. His top performance among the 10 games he took part in was against Arkansas State on November 25th, throwing for 214 yards and a hat trick of three touchdowns on 16 completions as he even rushed for 100 yards and a pair of scores. With the 35-21 win to conclude the season, he had his best quarterback rating of the year at 93.3. He did miss two games between November 4th and November 25th due to injury, having been banged up prior. He was sacked 27 times by opposing defenses throughout the season. Even though Marshall finished the regular season with six wins to secure bowl eligibility, Fancher still decided to enter the transfer portal on December 6th, which interestingly drew a controversial statement from his head coach Charles Huff. Huff offered comment to a Huntington TV station, saying he wasnt surprised by the decision because there isnt a lot of money for (name, image and likeness) and the fans hate him. The kid has been miserable. He has since apologized for those remarks, and provided a personal apology to Fancher. “I never intended, never stated, that Cam Fancher said any of those things, Huff said. Thats not what I was trying to say. Cam Fancher did not say he hates the fans. Cam Fancher did not say he left because of the fans. It was my personal opinion over what I was seeing, hearing, reading for an entire year. Thats all it was. Cam Fancher has done nothing but show up every day, bust his tail, play injured, play hurt, battle his way through, play well, improve.” Fancher was rated a three-star prospect by ESPN and 247Sports coming out of Wayne High School, with the latter ranking him the 72nd-best player in the state of Ohio and the 132nd-best quarterback in the country. He received offers from Georgia State, Austin Peay, and Eastern Illinois among others before committing to Marshall in 2020. Playing at quarterback and wide receiver at Wayne, he passed for 1,944 yards and seven touchdowns with 602 rushing yards and seven more scores on the ground during his junior season. He is now the 25th member of FAU’s budding 2024 class. Rated as a three-star transfer with an 88 score, he chose the Owls over LSU, NC State, Oregon State, Baylor, UTSA, and Western Kentucky among others. He was also ranked the 25th-best quarterback in the transfer class and 155th overall by 247Sports. Fancher becomes the fifth offensive player to transfer to the Owls for the 2024 season, joining the likes of running back CJ Campbell from Florida State and wide receivers Joseph Young from Coffeyville Community College, Marlyn Johnson from Buffalo, and George Johnson III from UMass.
